Validity and maintenance of the license according to §45 LuftpersV

  • The license is valid indefinitely, but requires a valid medical certificate.
  • A valid license only entitles the holder to fly if the holder of the license for aerodynamically controlled microlight aircraft has flown at least 12 hours, including at least 12 take-offs and 12 landings, on aerodynamically controlled microlight aircraft, touring motor gliders or single-engine land aircraft with piston engines within the last 2 years.
  • In addition, according to §45 LuftpersV, a practice flight of at least one hour in the last 24 months accompanied by a flight instructor on aerodynamically controlled microlight aircraft must be demonstrated. The training flight for SEP according to Part-FCL is not recognized as a training flight for air sports equipment. The training flight in accordance with § 45 LuftPersV must therefore be carried out on an UL.
  • These requirements can be replaced by a proficiency check with a recognized examiner on an aerodynamically controlled microlight aircraft, a touring motor glider or a single-engine land aircraft with a piston engine.
  • Proof of the training flight in accordance with §45 LuftPersV must be kept in the flight logbook and confirmed by the signature of the flight instructor or examiner.

Passenger authorization

After acquiring the microlight license, no passengers may initially be taken on board. For this purpose, a separate authorization, the so-called passenger authorization, must be obtained in accordance with § 84a LuftPersV can be acquired.

  • The prerequisite for acquiring this passenger authorization is proof of five cross-country flights. After obtaining the license, three cross-country flights with a stopover must be solo over a total distance of at least 50 kilometers, the other two cross-country flights with a stopover over a total distance of at least 200 kilometers must be accompanied by a flight instructor.
  • The applicant for a passenger license must prove in a practical examination that he/she meets the requirements for flights with passengers according to his/her knowledge and practical skills. The second of the two 200-km flights accompanied by the instructor can be counted as a test flight.
  • Definition of 200-km cross-country flights with UL instructor: Straight-line distance between take-off and destination airfield min. 100km, stopover and return to the take-off airfield is a 200km flight. If the distance is at least 200 km and a stopover has been made, i.e. at least 400 km there and back, two 200-km flights are fulfilled.
  • According to LuftPersV § 122 must be observed: Private aircraft pilots, glider pilots, airship pilots or air sports equipment pilots may only fly an aircraft carrying passengers as the pilot in command if at least three take-offs and three landings have been carried out within the previous 90 days with an aircraft of the same class, the same or similar type and the same type of air sports equipment.
  • For applicants with a valid license for private pilots, glider pilots or pilots of other motor-powered aircraft with a registered passenger authorization, the passenger authorization for three-axle aircraft is also entered when the three-axle license is issued without further proof.
